One of the reasons that Elon Musk wanted access to the US treasury was to be able to shut down USAID. This is because it was instrumental in the dismantling of Apartheid. Couple that with Trump’s announcement that all aid to South Africa has been halted and it is pretty clear that Elon Musk is angry that Apartheid was overthrown and is hell bent on punishing anyone and any organization that had a part in that. Obviously this is not the only thing currently going on (there is so much more terrible stuff happening) but it is part and parcel of dismantling US Democracy (or what of it existed).
